Newsletter March 2025

Tēnā koutou katoa, kia ora ngā hoa mā,

1. Revised Incorporation Status

After due deliberation the Team has decided to renounce incorporation and continue as a Group in conformity with the revised regulations for NGOs. We are therefore calling a Special General Meeting on Friday March 28 at 4pm on Zoom. An agenda will be circulated beforehand.

This change does not affect our status as a registered charity.

Here is the resolution we need to pass:

“…to dissolve our Incorporated Society status and continue as an organisation, the OCD Group which is also committed to action on climate change.”

Please indicate that you wish to continue as a member of OCD Group by emailing “YES” to [email protected]

2. New bank account

As part of the revised incorporation process we will cancel our current bank account and set up a new one. The current account is fine to use at the moment. We will notify you when we have established the new account.

3. Thank you to Bev

Many thanks to Bev for her role as convener. Bev has served us well over the past year.

4. New Convener

Sue Parsons has stepped in as convener for this year.  Sue has worked in urban planning and resource management at local and central government levels.  Sue is looking forward to working with the team towards achieving our Climate Declaration goals.

5. Webinar programme

The team is developing a series of webinars for later in the year. Watch this space.

6. Your support is appreciated

OCD’s team needs your help to continue our work. We will continue to develop high quality webinars, articles, and letters to editors etc. to share information about climate change. We value your support and your donation will make a difference.

Our financial statement for 2024 shows that our funds are low. We will only just be financially solvent by the end of this year.  We have $1500 remaining in the account. We pay annually an honorarium of $1000 for help with the website, and approximately $500 in fees.

We are very grateful for automatic payments of $65 per month, plus occasional donations, and would appreciate your ongoing support.  If you donate before the end of March you will receive a tax rebate this financial year.

A full financial statement for the financial year will be posted at the AGM.

We need friends with inspiration, a passion for the future and some time to devote to behind-the-scenes work. We meet for about an hour by ZOOM every three weeks, but in between, we plan, and share ideas and information by email.

Join us, as an observer at our 3-weekly meetings.  Email us at [email protected] so we can send you the link.

7. Inspiration

There is so much individuals can do.  Here is a photo of Bev’s grandson, while visiting his grandparent’s home in the Cook Islands, spearing invasive starfish that attack the local reefs. They then place them on the taro patches to act as fertiliser.  Karma!
