Dr. Rod Carr: inaugural chair of the Climate Change Commission (2019-2024), former Vice Chancellor of University of Canterbury (2009-2019) and one-time Reserve Bank Deputy Governor (1998-2003) and independent director and board chair of the Bank (2012-2017). Rod has a PhD in Insurance and Risk Management, MA in Applied Economics and Managerial Science, an MBA in Money and Financial Markets, an LLB (Hons) and BCom (Hons). Over 45 years he has advised six different governments on public policy relating to education, health, financial services, macro economics, financial system stability, the science system and disaster response and recovery. He is currently a director of ASB bank and recently appointed as a Trustee of the Banks Peninsula Conservation Trust.
